Located adjacent to Jane B. Moore Field at Auburn University, the Gregg E. Heim Player Development Center provides the Tigers’ softball program with a dedicated indoor training facility. The approximately 12,000-square-foot building allows student-athletes to practice hitting, pitching, and fielding throughout the year, regardless of weather conditions. Inside, six batting tunnels, retractable netting, and a full-sized turf infield provide the flexibility needed for individual drills and team practices.
Working with J.A. Lett Construction, ACI Building Systems engineered and supplied the metal building system, incorporating a 112-foot clear span and custom radius roof framing. The clear-span design provides an unobstructed interior for athletic activities, while the curved roofline gives the facility its distinctive appearance. Our scope included 24-gauge Ultra-Lok standing seam roof panels, FW-120 wall panels, and reverse roof liner panels.
Additional features include pitching machines, a clay pitching circle, LED lighting, and a dedicated team meeting space. The retractable netting system allows the facility to transition between individual batting stations and a full infield for defensive practice, giving Auburn’s softball program the ability to accommodate a variety of training activities within a single building.
